Central Trains class 170 crossing the River Nene at Peterborough in 2005. The ECML bridge can be seen in the background.

The Peterborough to March line starts at the south end of Peterborough Station near to the Crescent Bridge and then runs past the Great Northern EMU sidings and then over this steel bridge, which is on a curve over the River Nene. It is next to the Nene Valley railways Peterborough railway station.

I took these photo on this page from the Rail World footbridge, when is was open to the public. Today (2016) it is part of Railworld

This bridge looked a lot better in 2005 it had just been painted. But with in a few weeks it was full of graffiti.Today a fence has been put onto the side bridge to stop them getting on and painting it.

The line then goes under the ECML and past The Peterborough United football ground. The Great Eastern used to have its own station here called Peterborough East. This station also served the LNWR line to Northampton and the line to Rugby now used by the Nene Valley Railway as far as Wansford.

Just to the south of Peterborough station the river Nene is crossed by the ECML and the March line. The Peterborough to March line goes over the river on a curved steel bridge. The Nene Valley Railway Peterborough station is just to the right of the photos above as is, Rail World. The ECML bridges can be seen in the background.

The March line after the Nene bridge goes under the ECML  and then by the site of the East station  it then goes under the Perkins Parkway road bridge which is only about 30 years old I think. It then goes over the Black Bridge river bridge.

The line then heads out to Kings Dyke which is just outside Peterborough. On the to way to Whittlesea we see the only brick works left around Peterborough, that are along this part of the line. There are now no rail sidings left as all the bricks now go by road.

Whittlesea has the only station which is a small basic station. The line then goes on to Turves a small village in the fens with just a signal box and a few houses. It is then to on to March this part of the line is in wide open flat fens, as is the next part of the line from March to Ely.
